Medlars
(Eriobotrya japonica)
Originally from Japan, it may be one of the best known fruits in the area. Its skin is delicate and soft, the pulp is sweet and sour and refreshing, it is perfect for juices or smoothies. It is preferable not to stain it because it is difficult to clean.
It contains a high amount of carotenes and flavonoids, vitamins and ursolic acid. Studies indicate that it is a good liver protector and that it has diuretic and depurative properties as well as regulating the triglyceride index. It contains few calories (50kcal per 100g) and is therefore suitable for slimming diets.
We recommend trying them with Greek yoghurt and chopped digestive biscuits.
